Fluffernutter Day

Fluffernutter Day, celebrated annually on October 8th, honors the timeless and classic New England sandwich made of creamy peanut butter and sweet marshmallow fluff spread generously on soft white bread. The origin of the Fluffernutter can be traced back to the early 20th century when marshmallow creme was first invented in Massachusetts as a novel sweet treat. In 1917, Archibald Query created Marshmallow Fluff, which later became widely popular and beloved across the New England region. The delightful combination of this sugary marshmallow spread with smooth, creamy peanut butter layered between fresh white bread evolved into the beloved Fluffernutter sandwich, a nostalgic comfort food cherished by many families. Fluffernutter Day was established to celebrate this iconic regional delicacy and to highlight its cultural and culinary significance in New England’s rich food history.
